Shared Storybook Reading

Shared storybook reading, also known as shared reading, is the second step in the literacy-based therapy framework.

During this phase the clinician reads the story aloud to students in an interactive and engaging way using prompts, pointing to pictures, and props/visuals.

This step provides wonderful opportunities to support comprehension, ask wh questions, make connections to the text, label story grammar, use dialogic reading strategies, use hypothetical statements, and expand on concepts that were pre-taught during step 1.
